DO you ever get to the end of your working day and realise you haven’t taken so much as a sip of water? It may seem like a simple and obvious task, but whether you spend the day at a desk or on your feet, staying hydrated seems to be a habit that many of us let slip.

Your body is made up of about 60% water, with the recommended daily water intake being roughly two litres, so proper hydration is key for maintaining your energy, focus, and overall well-being throughout the working day. If you ever start feeling symptoms like constant headaches, dizziness, or lethargy, these could be a sign that you are dehydrated and you need to up your water intake (tea and coffee don’t count!).

Nick Hird, hydration expert and co-founder of ViDrate, has dedicated his career to helping people create healthy hydration habits and is sharing his tips on how you can stay hydrated at work:

  1. Make it taste better

If you find the taste of plain water a bit uninspiring, try and spice it up with some flavour. Adding hydration supplements or fruit like lemon and watermelon to your water can make drinking it more enjoyable and will motivate you to keep sipping throughout the day. Be careful not to overdo it with sugary hydration drinks or juices, however, as most are filled with artificial sweeteners or sugars. Instead opt for products such as ViDrate, which adds extra vitamins and electrolytes but has no sugar, despite tasting sweet and refreshing.

  1. Keep a bottle close by

Keeping a bottle close by is a great visual reminder to drink more water. Having it on your desk or in your bag will encourage you to take sips more consistently throughout the day. If you want to take it one step further, buy yourself a reusable, transparent bottle to help you keep track of how much you’ve drank that day and, as a bonus, reduce your single-use plastic waste.

  1. Set yourself reminders

It can be so easy to get wrapped up in work tasks and let the hours slip by. Setting a reminder can be a game-changer, especially if you know you’ve got a busy day ahead. If you are out and about set an alarm on your phone at intervals throughout the day, or if you’re at a desk try popping a sticky note on your computer as a constant reminder.

  1. Eat foods with a high watercontent

The food we eat is often overlooked as a source of hydration. Eating things like broccoli, bananas or strawberries are great choices to include in your workday meals or snack as they are over 90% water and will help supplement your water intake.

  1. Feeling peckish for snacks could be a sign you need more water

Sometimes when you’re feeling hungry, your body is actually signalling that it is dehydrated but it isn’t uncommon for our brains to confuse the signals for these two feelings, especially on busy days when we are looking for a quick fix. If you’re craving a snack outside of your usual mealtimes, try drinking a glass of water before you reach for a snack to see if this satisfies the craving first.

About ViDrate

ViDrate is the first zero-sugar natural hydration product to help people drink more water without added sugars or artificial ingredients. Launched in 2019 by Nick Hird and Rob Bennett, these on-the-go hydration sachets come in a variety of fruity flavours and include extra vitamins and electrolytes to offer the best form of enhanced nutrition.

A first of its kind, ViDrate offers sachets with caffeine for a healthy boost of energy, night time hydration for better sleep and a children’s mini range to encourage hydration from a young age.

ViDrate places sustainability at its core, saving nearly 11kg of plastic waste per person annually with its 0.4g plastic sachets (* based on replacing 1 x 500ml single use plastic drink per day). The brand is also moving towards fully recyclable sachets, hoping to eliminate plastic from its products for good.
